What is Microneedling and how does it work?
Microneedling is a “procedure using an electric impulse pen holding several single-use microneedles of various diameters” where products are not necessarily injected. Devices with a greater number of needles (12, 24, and 36) are more effective with more visible and clear results. The device pinpricks cause slight injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. This new skin tissue is, in turn, more even in tone and texture.
Did you know? Your skin (dermis and epidermis) has an average thickness of 1.2 mm, which is reduced by 6% every 10 years.
How long does it take to see results?
It takes roughly four to six weeks to visibly feel and notice the results of the Microneedling Treatment. Even though your body’s wound healing processes get triggered to heal your micro wounds immediately post treatment, the most dramatic results will not be visible until four to six weeks later. That is how long it takes for your body to create new, strong, healthy collagen.
Who is this treatment for?
This treatment is amazing for almost anyone as long as they do not have any active infections, lesions, or any known wound healing problems looking to treat acne scarring, target fine lines and wrinkles, tighten loose skin, improve skin texture, reduce pore size, lighten brown spots, address stretch marks and pigmentation issues. For anyone with active acne we recommend waiting until the skin is more clear to avoid irritating the area and potentially spreading bacteria.
How often should I get this treatment?
Microneedling is typically performed in a series of 4 to 6 sessions, spaced about 1 month apart. With hardly any downtime, there is no need to hide your skin post treatment. We apply a cooling and calming mask for 10 minutes post-treatment to help reduce inflammation. Do not work out, wear makeup, or apply anything other than gentle cleansers and moisturizers for at least 24 hours after the treatment and stay out of direct sunlight for the first week.
What are possible complications?
There are risks involved with receiving Microneedling however these risks are lower than many other skin treatments, such as chemical peels or laser treatments. Possible complications include bleeding, bruising, infection, scarring, and pigment problems. When it comes to acne scarring, Microneedling is still more effective than more aggressive treatments.
Is it worth it?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skincare procedure practiced all over the world for over 20 years that triggers the generation of new skin cells, noticeably reducing fine lines, crow’s feet, and deep wrinkles after a few treatments.
